ELA

This week we will learning how to find the theme in a story. A theme is the message, a lesson or an idea about life that the writer wants us to learn from the story.  There are many common themes that we can learn from stories. We can learn about love, being brave, death, happiness among others. People see themes that relate to their own life experiences.

First let's watch this video to help us understand more about themes:

Let's listen to the song below and look at the words in the song by Ariana Grande, "No More Tears Left to Cry:"

Now watch as I identify the theme in the Song, "No More Tears Left to Cry"

Now let's practice what we learned about themes in this worksheet

Science:

This week we will be learning about the human body and the organs systems that keep it alive. One way our bodies are kept alive is through homeostasis. This means that our bodies work to keep what is happening inside them the same all the time. This can be our body temperature or even how much water is in our bodies.

Let's watch a video to learn more about homeostasis:

We all get thirsty but do you know why you get thirsty? What is happening in your body to make you thirsty? Let's read to find out and answer the questions to show our comprehension.

Social Studies

This week we are learning about the Great Empire of Ghana in Africa. One thing that this Empire was known for was trading.  This means that people paid for good and services  with something similar to money. We will watch and learn about how the Empire rose, how long it lasted and what factors made it fall. Then we will make connections to our lives. We will ask ourselves:
  • -What are good and services?
  • -What does it look like in my community?
  • -How do I or the people I know participate in trading?

Let's watch the video about the Empire of Ghana:

Now let's review what we learned in earlier grades about goods and services:

Now let's think about our own lives. We buy things and others pay us to do something for them. Let's practice here.
